    Year 6 Robotics Day

    14th November 2017

    On November 14th 2017 a group of 8 children went to Oasis Academy Nunsthorpe for a robotics day. We had a series of challenges to complete including: building the robot shell, playing intense football, skittles, and sumos!

    KS2 RAF Coningsby Trip

    6th November 2017

    All of KS2 went on a fascinating visit to Coningsby RAF Base to learn all about the variety of aircraft used in World War 2 and compare it to modern day aircraft. In the hanger, we were amazed at all of the planes including: Spitfire, Lancaster Bomber, Hurricane and Dakota. We learnt so many interesting facts and stories about real life experiences in WW2.     KS2 Eden Camp Trip

    14th September 2017

    All of the KS2 children had a fabulous time at Eden Camp. They loved going in and out of the various huts learning all about WW1 and WW2. There were some fantastic reactions from the children as they experienced the sights, sounds and smells from the interactive displays. After lunch, the children were given the opportunity to play on the adventure playground. As you can imagine, there were quite a few children who transformed into WW2 soldiers, as they ran in and out of the various towers and tunnels! All

    Year 6 Enterprise Challenge

    Beamish Year 4/5

    Despite the appalling weather, KS2 had a fabulous time at Beamish. Year 6 went down the mine to find out what life was life working in those dark, damp and dangerous conditions. Year 4/5 had hands on experience of being a working child in Victorian times and Year 3/4 found out, that the Victorian classroom is not an easy place to be for a small child! The children were an absolute credit to the school and even though they were wet and cold, they smiled throughout the day!

    Making Hard Tack

    17th February 2017

    On Friday 17th February, as part of their ‘Ocean Explorers’ topic, Year 4/5 made a type of cracker called ‘Hard Tack’. This was part of the diet of Christopher Colombus and his crew on his voyage to America in 1492. The children worked well in groups, measuring out the ingredients carefully and taking it in turns to stir, knead and shape the dough. We are going to have our ‘Hard Tack’ as part of our ‘Ship’s Crew’ feast next term.

    Team Challenge Day

    17th February 2017

    KS2 had a great time on ‘Team challenge Friday’. They worked in small groups at a range of activities to earn points for their school teams. The activities were all based around problem solving. Each team had a go at each of the four activities, these were building the best racing car ramp, creating a cushion so that a water balloon wouldn’t burst when dropped from a height, trying to make sure a metre of string touched each of the 9 points on a grid and completing a ‘Countries of the world’ anagram treasur

    Badminton Club

    13th February 2017

    Badminton club is proving very popular and it has been pleasure to take the children each week. All of the children who participate have made great progress with their skills. We have recently been having mini-tournaments which the children really enjoy. They have all demonstrated great sportsmanship and enjoy the challenge, whilst at the same time supporting each other and celebrating their successes. A big thankyou to you all for setting an excellent example each week!

    Careers Fair

    9th January 2017

    On Monday 9th January 2017 the Year 5 and 6 children attended a Careers Fair at Macaulay Primary Academy. The children had the opportunity to meet a wide variety of professionals and find out about potential future career paths. They met a paramedic, referee, dog trainer and scuba diver. Along with these they talked to a member of the RNLI, a veterinary nurse and turbine engineer. The children were enthusiastic and asked lots of relevant questions, and really enjoyed the afternoon.

    The whole school enjoyed a cold but very enjoyable visit to Donna Nook. We saw lots of baby seals feeding, playing and enjoying the winter sun. The children were really enthusiastic throughout the day and loved getting so close to the seals.

    Weelsby Woods Adventure

    22nd November 2016

    On Tuesday 22nd November, the whole of Willows Academy adventured to Weelsby Woods. With crisp, sunny weather and the ground covered in leaves, it was a beautiful afternoon for all. All classes separated to complete different woodland related tasks, from leaf collection and den building, to the measurement of trees. The shared experience was enjoyed by every member of the school.

    Classroom In The Woods

    As part of our topic on Invaders, KS2 went to the Classroom in the Woods. Miss Green’s and Miss Davenport’s class’ focus was Anglo-Saxons and Vikings. We participated in a variety of activities including:

    • Building boats from wood and string, which we floated down the river.
    • Foraged for our own food-finding sloes, blackberries and raspberries.
    • Building shelters from logs and branches we found in the forest
    • Plucked, cooked and ate pigeon that had been shot earlier in the day.

    Innovation Week - Year 4 & 5

    On the first day of ‘Innovation Week’ Year 4/5 have been learning about the different foods from around the world. They have completed research based challenges, estimated and weighed a variety of fruits and to finish the day off had a tasting session. They had to come up with WOW Words to describe the fruits they were tasting and I can tell you, some of the reactions and WOW Words were rather surprising!

    As part of Year 2 Science we learned about the heart. To help us understand what this looked like, a real heart was brought into class. Miss Houseman showed this and cut into parts so we could better understand what hearts look like, what the heart does and how it does it. Year 6 also got a chance to view the heart and lungs with Year 2.
